A Note from the Pastor

Having a little car trouble, I’ve been taking Mrs. Mac to her work at Peach Co. As you know, they are going to school four days a week, and have to clock in by 7:00 a.m.   As I was coming to the church after dropping her off, going east on Russell, the sun was just below the horizon. It was one of those mornings when the sky looks like a canvas, and the clouds are brush strokes. It was not just beautiful, it was memorable, and I was thankful to be able to see it.

One of the pre-school age little girls in our church was playing after the service with a little boy who was a year or so younger. He looked up and said, “Where’s my mommy?" She took him by the hand and said, “I’ll take you to her.” It was not just beautiful, it was memorable, and I was thankful to be able to see it.

During the month of September, I will be preaching a series of sermons on the Christ-like life. It can be a beautiful thing to see and experience. Join us, and invite others.

    See you Sunday.

It’s September already!!! We hope that with the month of September there might be cooler temperatures but we have no guarantees. We do however within the life of our congregation have some items that we know will happen every September. It is the time of year to plan budgets and fill leadership positions for January 2011. The lay leadership of our congregation, meaning those who serve on committees or chair age level ministries, is vital within the life of our church.

We have committees that are responsible for maintaining our buildings and grounds (Trustees Comm.), planning budgets and finances (Finance Comm.), working with our staff and clergy appointments on matters of personnel (Staff Parrish Relations Comm.), and the Missions Comm. that plans for our outreach activity. There is not enough space to list all committees or all the positions related to worship, congregational care or family ministries.

The Lay Leadership Committee will meet September 13 at 6pm to begin the process to fill all the committees and positions that are needed each year to help our congregation serve God, our community and each other the way God has called us. Begin to think about where God is calling you to serve in the coming year. If you know someone that you think would be a wonderful servant please let us know. If God is calling you to serve let us know where. If you are asked to serve, please prayfully consider your answer. God has called us all to serve and we are not the same when someone is missing.

     God’s Grace & Peace, Kathy

September is here; how quickly time goes by. Please mark your calendars for our next Children’s Council Meeting September 7th @ 6pm.

Many thanks to all those who helped make our back to school bash FFZ with the Cub Scouts a wonderful evening. A special thanks to those who helped cook and serve lots and lots of hot dogs and cleaned up when we were finished. The weather didn’t stop us from having a great time of fun and fellowship. The food pantry will be very thankful for the large amount of canned goods that were collected. Having fun and serving God at the same time, life is grand!

Friday Fun Zone September 17th @ 6p.m. Bring your pets for a special blessing. And join us in a parade of pets, and watch service dog demonstrations. Ribbons (largest, smallest, cutest, fluffiest, etc) will be awarded. Monetary, Food and bedding donations will go to local animal shelters. Parents remember all children must have an adult present for this FFZ event and it is not necessary to bring a pet to participate. In the event of rain, program will be cancelled.

 Music

I just want to say thank you to the youth for being so willing to be servants of God by leading us in worship this past Sunday. As a leader of the church, I am blessed that Rachel and Bo (among others) are so involved in the youth of this church. If it weren’t for them, there would be no youth band and no youth Sunday. It is important for the life of this church to grow young leaders as eventually we will all be gone and it will be left in their hands. It is so important to have ministries, like youth Sunday, that give our young people the opportunity to share from their hearts. Sometimes we get so caught up in the routine of every Sunday that we forget the enthusiasm that we had as youth. Although there are things that need to be better developed, I was blessed by the youth this past Sunday. This is their time to learn the importance of worship in a hands on fashion and I thank all of the congregation that was there to support them. As I said, some areas of the service need to be better developed and it is our job as adults to correct those areas. This isn’t our time to complain or fuss at the youth, but instead it is our time to encourage and teach them. I encourage this church to help cultivate the youth in a positive fashion so that next time it is even better. Thanks again to all that help with the youth and being a great church!

The School of Music start date has been postponed to January.
